Semi-permanent makeup procedures including semi-permanent lips are becoming more popular. Semi-permanent lips can be ideal for anybody who wants to enhance the natural beauty and features of their lips and add volume and colour. With semi-permanent lips, you can forget about reapplying lipstick all the time and there’s no need to get lip fillers either.
What are Semi-Permanent Lips?
Semi-permanent lips is a procedure that shapes and adds definition to the natural lip line. It is an ideal procedure for correcting a natural asymmetry in your lips or correcting an uneven lip line. While it is similar to a tattoo, it is not the same as a regular tattoo as it is semi-permanent, and you will need to revisit to get the pigment topped up over time if you want to maintain your results.
What is the Procedure – Step By Step
If you want semi-permanent lips, you will go through the following:
Consultation – This includes a patch test to ensure that you don’t have an allergic reaction to the pigment used during the procedure. It is an appointment to discuss your plans for shaping and defining your lip line. You will also discuss how you want the finished result to look and which colour to use. If you have a colour in mind, bring it along – a favourite lipstick is a good option.
Preparation – You will need to do several things to prepare for your procedure. For twenty-four hours before your appointment, you should avoid:
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
For the two weeks prior to your appointment, you will be required to avoid:
- Retinoids or vitamin C products in your skincare routine
- Botox
- Chemical peels
- Facial waxing
- Laser treatments
You will still be able to get semi-permanent lips if you have lip fillers. However, for the best results, there should be a six-week gap since your last filler treatment before you get semi-permanent lips. The day before your appointment, prepare your lips for the procedure by using a gentle exfoliator and a moisturiser or lip balm.
During – The actual procedure will start with drawing the desired shape on your lip line. You will see this and can make any adjustments before the pigment is applied. A custom blended pigment will be created to suit your preferences, taking your hair colour and skin tone into account. The treatment will be started once you are satisfied. It will take around 90 minutes to apply the pigment with a fine needle brush and you will be given a local anaesthetic to help with any discomfort.
Aftercare – After the procedure, there are some steps to take to make sure that your lips recover well and look great. You will be given aftercare instructions to take home with you along with a balm to apply to your lips. Some discomfort and pain are normal at the start. You may want to take over the counter painkillers. Avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and touching your lips unnecessarily while they heal.
